Sky opened his eyes, rolled over, and started puking into the bin. What the fuck was this? This was the only thing he could focus on. The lieutenant was standing over him looking confused. He said, “LT, I need a diversion and a chat with the Cap. I hope you told nobody that you saw the file from me.”
The Lieutenant nodded. “This will not be easy. Everybody,” he took a deep breath and continued, “and when I say everybody, I literally mean everybody is searching for you. This is a shitstorm. They even try to get the pensioners back! This is crazy!” He breathed short and fast. This was too much for him.
Sky looked into his eyes and said, “Look into my eyes and breathe as I am breathing. In and slowly out. Now slowly in and slowly out. Focus on my breathing.”
The lieutenant calmed down. In reality, it was not a problem that they were searching for him. The problem was far more intense.
“Morgan, thanks. I don’t know how to tell you this, but…” He made a pause. He didn’t know how to say this. “I will tell this bluntly. They are searching for you cause, we, the police, think you killed the chief and captain.”
Sky looked in disbelieve at the Lieutenant. He did not know what to do now. His plan was gone. He hoped they would help him understand, or at least explain. The only thing now he was sure of was that he found something that nobody should have. How could they do this? He had only his name here and was always standing by it. Now, somebody was even trying to take this away. He replied, “This is not happening. When did it happen?” He shouted at the end, “I didn’t do it! Believe me, LT!”
The lieutenant was looking at him. He knew many things were possible, but not this. He had known Morgan for years. His past was always a concern, but since they met at the academy, he knew that this was an honest man. Maybe not telling everything, but somebody you can always trust. He replied, “The police think that. You and I know that this is not the case, but… Eh, there is always a but.” They both laughed. He continued, “But, as you know, something is not right, and you are in the middle of it. Do you know what is going on?”
Sky shook his head. The lieutenant explained to him what he knew about the killings and the hunt. They are searching for him based on the rushed ballistic results. It is supposedly his sniper rifle that was used to kill the captain. However, how could he be in two places at the same time with a gun he never owned? This was something the Lieutenant could not understand or, more likely, was not possible. Yet after what he heard until now, maybe it was? Either it was the most improbable and difficult frame job or Sky was the most daring criminal in New Helios, when not the entire planet. Neither option was really workable, yet one had to be true because the Lieutenant didn’t see any other option that made sense to him. Sky knew the cases were always like puzzles. You either find the missing pieces or not. Sky laughed. The lieutenant looked at him, not understanding what this was about. You look under the couch, behind the wardrobe, or maybe in the tea can. There are so many places. You never know where it is, yet you suspect it will not be easy to find. In Reality you know that if it is once lost, you will never find it, yet nobody wants to accept it. It is like the best place to put something, so you remember in the future where it is when you need it. You never remember! It was the best place, and now you have it on the tip of your tongue, yet you can not remember or say it. He looked at the lieutenant and said, “It is just an instinct from the old times.”
Sky knew there was a way to solve it. Most people did not like it. It was tedious for them. Most people did it cause they had to and not because they wanted to. This was the difference between the best and the mediocre person. Either you love it or you hate it and are forced to do it. You grin and bear it. This was their way. Yet Sky was different. He loved it. Work! A case! This was his life. There was nothing more exciting. Nothing could compare to a good murder, especially one with a twist. He knew he had to grind! The smallest detail was of the utmost importance. There was only one path. He said, “LT, thank you! Please remember from now on. You don’t know me. You know I exist, yet there is nothing more to tell about me. I am just an average detective working in your department, and you didn’t receive any documents from me in the last month.”
The lieutenant was thinking about what he was talking about. All of this was a lie!
“Spirit Art 1000,
the weak are listening,
they believe,
they follow not asking questions,
they believe,
the world is changing for them,
they believe!”
The Protector entered the room. You could see the sweat on his face. “Master Prime Minister.” They looked at him. He was the protector of the realm. His vow made it clear to protect from enemies outside and within. This time, it was within. One of us killed and had to be caught. At least, this was the official story. Yet, was it really like this? Or maybe it was a frame job? Only time will tell. “All agencies and local departments are searching for him. If I may…“ There was a brief pause before he said, “Isn’t it too much? After identifying the Butcher last year, we didn’t mobilise that many units.” They looked at him. He felt it instantly. There was no discussion that if he wanted to live another day, he had to listen. There was something not right about this from the beginning, yet he abandoned his convictions; the only way was to follow. He left thinking, what is this really about, and yet should he worry about this?
The dark figure was sitting in a dojo holding a black bokken with one hand and air with his other hand as if it were another bokken. The moment she entered the room, his eyes opened looking at her, and he said, “Did it work?”
“Yes,” she answered.
“Good, humanity can survive at least with somebody representing the best of us and not only the worst. It will be a tough life, but he will manage, I believe. How is the situation on our side?”
She shrugged. This was really brutal not to see your closed ones ever again, yet it was the fail switch. We gave only a push in the right direction. This would have happened either way. At least, that was what she knew. Maybe this was part of a bigger plan? She couldn’t know, or didn’t want to. Maybe he could? “It is going according to our plan. We expect the convergence within the next 6 hours.”
He sighed with relief for the first time in a long time. She felt a change in presence; it started to be slightly hopeful. The feeling was like that of a cherry tree on the first warm days. They hope it will not change, that it will be only warm from now on. Until the next snow falls. Then the tree freezes and focuses on survival to really bloom when the time comes. She knew that both would bloom at the correct moment. Therefore, she was there as a pillar. She was the release who had the key.
Sky hit his head while waking up. This dream was hard to comprehend. Was it really true? He looked around. Yes, the world around was not Earth, but was he ever on Earth? He was lying on the ground looking at the sky, and slowly it made sense. How did he hit his head? How was he, at the same time lying on the roof? The space-time continuum was disturbed, and yet right as far as he knew. It was always corrected, and because he didn’t understand how to use it, the auto-correction would always kick in. The headache just increased exponentially. He knew subconsciously that his training was kicking in. Automatic body reactions were the pinnacle of the Blacksmith’s training. He had a job to do; there was no going back. He walked down the flight of stairs saying to himself, “It is time to finish what I started.”
