The Command Centre was as busy as hell. Everybody was running as the world would fight a war, yet it was only one detective. Agent Harry, or whatever his name was, looking around and thinking, how did this happen? It was only one guy.
“Top Priority, get me all files on him. Check all available surveillance. Even the Archives. Check everything!”
He sat down and looked at the Satellite image. Nobody was moving. The target escaped. This case was a nightmare. There was local P.D., military, government. Nobody knew who should be in charge and yet nobody wanted to. Agent Harry knew. He was the voice of the Council. This meant he was in charge, yet he would have liked to be as far away as possible from this. This case was nothing he had experienced until now. He knew that long ago there were people who could use spirit arts, but they should be dead. Only the Council and the Old Guard could use it and know how to use it. Therefore, they were leading and are in charge of our world.
The sun was rising over the mountains surrounding New Helios. The Lieutenant was on his way to the precinct. This will be a hard day. He hated it. This Sky, he was always causing trouble. He knew the drill. The Cap and Chief will make his life hell. He took a deep breath and entered the station. He could not believe this. Everybody was working. Not just working, they were grinding. Somebody passed him and just said, “Morning.”
He did not reply. He only felt uncomfortable about this. Something was wrong or perhaps you could say not right. However, what is the difference? It was still looking like shit. He opened the door. There was already somebody inside.
Morgan was sitting in the corner. Eventually, he had to come here. He laughed silently thinking about how it is always darkest under the lamp. He looked at the sky. It should be a nice day, except for what is happening. He needed to protect them. If they attacked him, they would attack the others. He only hoped that it was not too late. Finally, the door opened. He looked, and it was the Lieutenant not the Captain. What is going on?
“Agent Harry, look at this,” he looked at the file. This was interesting. How could this be? Even the founders were dead, yet he was still here. Or was he? He could be a clone. He could just look like him. We need to find him. He shouted “Find him! Yesterday!”
This was top priority. This man should not exist. Yet he lived here from the beginning. He was still shocked, yet this would not help. He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. Yes, this was going to be a long day. He ordered all the search parties to go to the city. There was no point in looking in the mountains. He got the information from New Helios P.D. that suspected him of killing the Chief and Captain. This was helpful, even if not true. The orders were explicit. Kill him and everybody he was in contact. Agent Harry was slowly getting nervous, considering the situation. If they wanted to kill everybody who was in contact with Sky, then everybody here was in danger, including himself. For now he knew that finding him and surviving this was the most important thing, cause if the Council gave the order there was no turning back. They always got what they wanted. He continued to read the file, and he felt shivers down his spine.
He shouted, “Are You joking?”
Sky was lucky that this room was soundproof. The Lieutenant sat down again to take a deep breath. Their silence was hurting the ears. They looked on to each other. The situation was dire. The Lieutenant said, “First things first, wait here for me.”
He locked the door. Sky closed his eyes. He knew it was time. He shrugged thinking about it, yet it was inevitable. The time has come. He sighed and accepted his fate. There was only one move for him now. Be one with the spirit energy. Even here it was present. He always thought about how quiet it was here. There was almost no movement in this world. He merged with the present, felling as the past overwhelm him. Yet he was after the future.
A dark figure entered a room and said, “All is set.”
The person sitting in the chair sighed in relief. Yes, it was happening. This was insurance for the success of the backup plan. He hated it, yet there was no way around it. They did not believe that he would succeed and had the audacity to prepare it without him. What was even worse was the idea that they thought he would not find out about it. He replied, “well, he is the best for this. He will leave after the ritual. Is everything set?”
The dark figure nodded.
Sky opened his eyes and grasped for air. This was always freaking him out. He was still living yet; he was on the verge of death. How they could do it for hours or even days and weeks was impossible for him to comprehend. He was still shocked, but for the first time with the information and not the experience he understood. Was this real? He comprehended why he was here, and it made sense for the first time. He felt angry. Did he always meddle in the affairs of others? Sky knew that he was the only one that left just after the ritual was finished. How could he know about this? Only a few trusted persons knew. Did this mean that he was put on the list and not really chosen? Was this all planned? He felt dizzy and fell to the ground.
Agent Harry felt shivers down his spine at the thought that they could come here. This was slowly getting out of hand. He had people in the hospital, but more importantly, dead police officers or more accurately, the Chief and the Captain were no longer with us. This was a shitstorm. He knew they would come sooner rather than later.
A person sitting on the floor in the back of a room said, “finally, we can talk.”
Sky shook his head. He did not feel well. What happened? He could only see the shape of a person. His eyes could not focus. The shadow continued. “Take a deep breath. The first time. Hmm, how should I say it? Is difficult? No, sorry can’t put it into words, but you know what I mean?”
Yes, he knew. He nodded. What happened? His mind was hurting as hell. If he would drink all the alcohol, he could get his hands on and survive, it would be less painful than this. At least this is what he thought. Sky exaggerated things.
“It will get better with time and practice. For now, just listen and relax.”
Sky closed his eyes. There was no way he would see something. He laid down and listened. The voice was calm and relaxing. He was sure he knew it. He just couldn’t grasp whose voice it was.
“You will decide the fate of the universe. You will make a choice in the future. Each possibility will look wrong, yet right. There is no appropriate answer. You are there cause you always make the correct decision. Don’t take me wrong when I say this. Have fun!”
Sky opened his eyes and wanted to shout, but no sound came out. He wanted to stand up, yet he could not. As soon as he tried, he felt as if he would be sucked through a vortex.
Agent Harry looked at the elevator. He knew. They were here. The doors opened slowly making the sound which you expect from an elevator. If he was the worst of what every law enforcement agency could think about, they were the devil himself. He saw them only once and in his head it was one time too much. This was, unfortunately, the second time. Yet this time, it was different. Everybody else felt instantly the change in the room. Yet Agent Harry felt something different this time. Was it nervousness or maybe fear? He understood now what was going on. Everything made sense. They stopped in front of his desk and asked, “status report?”
He said, “no changes. Everybody is searching for him. He is nowhere to be found. It looks like he just vanished.”
He continued to explain who was searching, where they were searching. All departments and agencies which were searching. As he was telling this, he just thought. With this amount of manpower, they could win a war or at least defend the city for an extensive time. The Protectors, as they were called, looked at each other. They knew that their only hope was for him to make a mistake. They asked for all the files on him. The hope was that Agent Harry found something that they did not know. However, would he make a mistake? For what they knew, he could be already far away, yet according to his profile, he does not leave cases unsolved.
